Sorry, but you must have not set your Z Zero on the machine to the top of the work, else you have set the incorrect Z values in VCarve. If you manually move the tool to the top of the work is the axis showing 0 On VCarve you just need to set the Depths. Normally Start depth is 0.00 and Cutdepth is t...

Gerald, Windows can be a a mystery to us all sometimes.

Hi Gerald No problem Drivers and updaters are here for Windows 10 UBS disconnect Run the installer to see it you can uninstall first. Run installer and click MDX-540 and it will show USB. Glad you solved it.
Yes the Roland Updater was designed for starting at Windows XP as that was the current OS for the MDX-40 at the time.

The latest SRP Player has drilling at a location you specify, but cannot detect holes in an STL.
For drilling a profile milling, Cut2D by Vectric.com is a powerful and in expensive solution

If you read the ZCL-40A user manual there is a section on setup, then you can make a test cut as shown in the manual and make fine adjustments if needed.
