SC-545EX cyan streaks all over print

Post by kendod27 » Tue Apr 04, 2017 9:45 pm

ImageHey guys,

As title suggests I have the old SC-545EX print & Cut which is misbehaving!

Just done a test print as setting up new media, t-shirt transfer vinyl, and I'm getting cyan streaks all over my prints!!

This happens via Versaworks or even with test print via machine itself. Until today it has been fine with no streaks.

When I say streaks I mean it looks as if the print head is sliding right along the media!

The actual print seams to be coming out normal but obviously there is an issue with the Cyan print head somehow spraying ink all over it?

It's recently had the following work done:
new pumps (old style)
new dampers
new caps
new blade and holder
new print head (everything re-calibrated and working great since)
new head cables

All fitted around 2 weeks ago.

I will try to upload an image of it if I can ...

Any thoughts, let me know - thanks all.

Thanks for the reply, before touching anything I done another test print - now cyan is gone.

After this test print visually checked the head cables for anything obvious but all seam to be seated properly and spotless.

I do have a access to a spare print head so wondering if it's worth replacing this or, as there's now no cyan at all, is it more than likely to have same issue with replacement head? This could get expensive!

Repairing a printer yourself may always get eexpensive. I have seen several cases where a customer intends to save €100 service call spending €4K in the long run.

Do not use generic flat cables from ebay, some of them don't work right out of the box and are brittle and easy to break when handing.

The cables were purchased from Digiprint Supplies and listed as genuine oem parts.

If there is any techs/engineers on here from Scotland, UK please give me a shout as I can't find a single one that can carry out the work. Nearest so far is hundreds of miles away, which would mean 1 journey to diagnose then another to repair which would be ludicrous expenses in travel alone without touching the machine. If someone is local they are more than welcome to take the job on.

oh and after removing the cables to inspect the tips, which all appear perfect, done 1 final test print before giving up, the cyan streak is back lol
Kind of points to the cables I would think but that is merely a guess at this stage until I can find someone to check it over.

I would not trust Digiprint Supplies 100% on their listings.

Also, you can easily break even a genuine cable card.

We have progress!! I went ahead and removed the print head as I could see signs of ink leaking around the problem head.

Sure enough, the manifold was leaking where it joined the print head!

Replaced and tested before installing, all back to normal again. Pheww!

At a guess i would say perished seal?

You mean between the electronic board and the plastic manifold?
