Roland Modela MDX-20, flashing LEDs

Post by blips » Fri Jul 07, 2017 1:50 pm

I recently acquired an old Modela MDX-20 and have successfully milled one printed circuit board with it.

However, when I turn it on now, the MODELING, SCANNING and VIEW are all blinking simultaneously once every second.

I have tried swapping the motor Z axis with the scanning module, but still have the same error.

I am unable to communicate or start new mill jobs.

Any idea what could be wrong?

I figured out the problem. It turns out the "junction PCB", connecting the spindle/scanning units to the main board, had a faulty pcb trace.

I resoldered the DIN-8 connector, and the Modela is working again.

All the best,

Glad to hear you are an apt fault finder.
Unfortunately on old machines some faults can occur.
