EGX-350 Depth of Cut

Post by chewie360 » Sat Oct 07, 2017 2:29 pm

I've run into a problem with the subject machine. It is only cutting to -0.2 from Z-zero, regardless of settings. XY speeds also appear constant. I've reinstalled the software, as well as done full restarts.

This is the first issue I've had in 4 years with this engraver. Any advice is appreciated.

Cheers,
Aaron

Does the bit go lower with manual control?

Mrtn,
No, it does not. I've always used manual control due to the nature of the engraving I do. Engraving parameters are not being transferred to the machine, so far as I can tell.

Now if you manually move the Z+ to the upper position from the lowest position does it move the whole 40 mm?

Yes. I get travel through all 40mm.

So even if you set your Z0 at 30 mm height it won’t go down more than 0.2 mm?

That is precisely my problem. Changing the cut parameters in the print settings does not affect XY speed or Z depth.

*UPDATE* I've tested this out with Dr. Engrave and 3d Engrave programs that came bundled from Roland. The 3D Engrave operates generally as I expected. Dr. Engrave is where I currently have the problem.

Check the pen parameters in Windows driver.

Re: EGX-350 Depth of Cut *solved*

Post by chewie360 » Mon Oct 09, 2017 6:30 pm

I started to look into the pen parameters as you suggested. It occurred to me to check for the driver version before I got too deep into something new. The installed version was 1.01. Roland currently has 1.20 on their support page. Installing the new version seems to have resolved the issue.

Thank you for the help.

Cheers,
Aaron

These things happen with Windows updates.
