LEJ-640 - Transparent Film Issues

Hello,

I have been scouring the internet for several days trying to solve an issue I'm having with a Roland LEJ-640 printer.

I'm attempting to print on clear film, but the white ink is printing extremely transparent. I printed a sample last week with no issues but when trying it again this week the white layer was so clear you could see right through it. This is a printer at a school so many students use it, I'm not sure if someone changed a setting which is causing the issue.

Are there any particular options I need to set on the machine or the computer to correct this issue? I tried changing out the white ink with a new cartridge but it did not fix the problem.

Thank you for your time.

Are you shaking the white ink every day? This is very important, as the pigments settle to the bottom of the cartridge and just the carrier fluid is getting pulled through. Probably need to flush out some of the lines, im sure someone with that knowledge will be on shrotly to tell you which option is the best :)

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the white ink and shook it prior to insertion. I asked the people who are in charge of the printer on campus but their solution was to overprint the white, which only reduces the transparency slightly even at 3 coatings.

Not sure how to go about flushing the lines, I'll wait and see if I can get some more responses before I persue that.

Yeah, probably needs a couple of cleans, not something I have ever done, try searching in here, mrtn is the resident expert in here (barring the roland crew!)

Get the buggers told, the white needs removing and shaking every day. Its not really difficult, 3 coats it should be glowing with whiteness. They are printing with shiny nothing basically! I have a couple of decals on printers which tells you to shake the white daily.

Word. Daily shaking of the cartridge, even if you don't use white during the day, is necessary. A small amount of ink is pulled in the system every time the printer is performing automatic and on demand cleaning, including white.

I would not flush the lines unless the printer has been unused for a few months. A couple (or more) of MENU > SUB MENU > INK CONTROL > CIRC-DISCHARGEs should take care of the issue.

See, thats the command you want :D.

Spoke to a technician, he suggested the Circ-Discharge as well. Did a couple rounds but the ink still came out transparent so he's going to have to stop by to service it. Pretty sure the white ink hasn't been used since the last time I used it, which was 2 months ago.

Appreciate the help, hopefully this gets fixed soon.

That might explain it. Has the nozzle test print been fine tho?

Couldn't perform the test because I got kicked off so other people could use the machine, though the tech did ask for it. Since he is coming down anyways I decided I would just let him do it himself.
