Good quality non adhesive textile for Roland VS-640i

Post by Rod » Fri Feb 12, 2016 3:57 pm

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone may be able to offer suggestion on the above. We received some samples from our supplier who have a very limited choice of non adhesive textiles/canvas for our VS-640i.

The samples aren't very nice. The weave of the textile is really heavy and the coating looks similar to a layer of emulsion paint. The combination of the two make the prints look pretty horrible - kind of cheap and nasty looking.

I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Ideally we're looking for a light weight non adhesive textile that doesn't have the heavy coating described above.

Our service is based in Edinburgh.

Many thanks

Unfortunately you will be hard pushed to find a decent fabric based material as they all require a coating to be printable with an eco-solvent printer.
There are none that spring to mind I'm afraid.

Thanks for your reply Ryan. The repositionable fabric wallpaper stock seems pretty good. It has a really light coating in comparison to the other samples we have seen.

I am hoping to find something similar without the adhesive backing.

I will keep looking and if I have any luck will report back.

What is the expected use of the material once printed?

Hi Kai. Student posters for overseas travel. The students like to have their posters printed on fabric so they can be rolled up and put inside a suitcase (without cardboard tube) then lightly ironed if required to remove creases.

We have previously used a large format inkjet printer but the black ink doesn't cure well. Several days after printing it is still easily smudged.

You could have a look at textile flag materials or a canvas for that kind of output, you could always use a liquid laminate to help protect the finished product.

Took a bit of searching but found a really nice textile - lightweight without a heavy coating. It's been an ideal substitute for our Inkjet stock. Great for posters and pop up-banners.

I'll not post a link but it can be found under the code S600NFR.

Cheers
