XJ-740 Connection loss.

Post by DPStudio » Sun Dec 16, 2012 3:12 pm

Hi i own an XJ-740 CMYKLcLm and since 3 days ago it keeps losing connection .
The printer is stuck showing processing and Versaworks shows "not connected".
To overcome this problem i need to shut down the printer and restart .
Since yesterday this connection loss is becoming a real problem since the printer prints maximum 50cm and then loses connection to versaworks.

1.The printer uses original ink cassettes (chips are all full)
2.I also tried connecting directly to the computer but its all the same.
3.I updated to Versaworks 4.8 but i get message "Cannot find information the ink set used in the device detected. Please make sure the software supports the ink set."
4.I installed a 2nd pc with Versaworks disk v4.1 and updates to 4.8 but it also again keeps losing connection.

Any ideas?

I have been already visited by a Roland Technician who replaces main board but he also kept losing connection, so it is not main board. He then replaced carriage board and again the same . So it is not due to boards.
He updated network firmware . And re installed Versaworks but nothing.

Try looking at your anti virus as this can block the connection. It may have had an update recently so if in use, turn ir off and see how it goes.

Also, turn off your firewall software, ESPECIALLY if you have installed any third party firewalls like the one bundle with N-force motherboards.

One of the most common reasons for disconnections are broken/low quality patch cable/router/switch problems. The €10 plastic home switches cannot take the load of massive data flow printing requires and fail by overheating or other reasons. Some people have thrown a pile of paper on the switch/router, also causing overheating.

My favourite case was a customer calling with the disconnect problem for two days at noon time. First I had her check all the usual stuff, then visited their shop doing it all again by myself. Found nothing. Then, when I got the third call at noon time again I asked, if she by any means has a router near the window. So it was. the sunshine overheated it.

Hi .
I uninstalled all antivirus software and shut down firewall.
Also i used a laptop connected directly to the printer and again nothing.
Is there any chance it has something to do with the network card pf the printer.
Is there any update firmware for it? (F) ?

Hi,

Firstly check for any power management that the laptop may have on, if the network drop out occurs at a particular point, then this could point to that.

It could be the speed of the card, check that it is setup correctly or update the driver for the card.

Failing this have you tested it with a different PC or laptop?

Thanks for the response.

I have checked the printer on 4 different computers and 2 laptops all on Windows 7.
I also use pressure air to clean all boards .
The weird thing is that it was working fine 4 days ago.
In detail versaworks removes the file from the print box and the printer keeps showing processing and returns to cup position.
After it either shows "not connected" and need to restart or shows connected but disconnects on next print try.

Something significant that i forgot to mention is that 2 weeks ago i installed 3 Acro ink cassettes .
Is there any chance that the ink cassettes or the chips of the ink cassettes cause the problem?

Ok, that rules out the laptop, or other PC's.

Strange that the mainboard change didn't work, maybe the network firmware is corrupted, try updating both the network firmware and the machines firmware.

What type of cartridges are they? Haven't heard of Acro ink before.
