Does the engraver show up under devices and printers? or does it show as an other or unknow device in device manager?

It could be that the driver is not correctly installed.

Have you tried engraving through Dr. Engrave?

Have a look at the Vectric software CUT 2D, this would be the best software for the machine, R-Wear hasn't been updated since 2012 so it won't support new PDF's.

Yes www.vectric.com are fully compatible with Roland machines, plus they import - DWG, DXF, EPS, AI, PDF, SVG
Image File Imports include - BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF with nice vectorising to create vectors for machining. This cuts out vectorising in Illustrator, plus as it is for machining, it optimises the paths.
The biggest bonus, apart from the free trail version and shed loads of tutorials, is the price.....
