Cutting Long Decals- Roland Sp-540V

Post by seanprokopec » Mon Apr 17, 2017 3:55 pm

Hi,

I currently have a job cutting out 18' long black decals and I am unable to do it with any level of accuracy.

The lines drift off very quickly and I'm not sure what I can do to improve the quality or if this machine is even capable of doing this kind of job.

If anyone has any input into the matter I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

Sean

The machine is very much capable of cutting double that length at great precision.

You may have several issues there, read this topic first: viewtopic.php?f=54&t=7480&p=16885&

The next issue may be worn out pinch rollers/frames (not enough pinch roller pressure). This happens with very old machines or the ones left media loaded overnight. Add the extra pinch rollers for test.

The main problem seems to be when the media is fed it will not stay perpendicular to the machine.

I tried adding more pinch rollers but I didn't make any difference.

The decal I am trying to print is about 2" wide and about 18' long. It makes the first cut from one end completely to the other and by the time it reaches the end the edge of the media has shifted at least 1/2".

Oh, ok. Did you remove the pinch roller stopper to put in the 2" media?

SP-540V minimum accepted media is 8" wide. If you set the media fully on the right side grit rollers (only meant for the right side of the media) then it's normal to shift.

Sorry about the clarity.

I'm using 30" media but cutting 18' long by 2" curved strips.
