Press Once or Twice...

Post by Adam Wyles » Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:04 pm

I have had many conversations this week and there is something I would like to get you view and opinion on. Do you heat press your transfer once, or twice. If you press twice, why?

Adam are we talking about sublimation or textile vinyl ? If textile whether cadcut or printable vinyl then it should just be the one press**, I have on occasions done a quick 1-2 second press to take the glue away that has seeped from under the edges of the material because I used to high a pressure on the heat press, this is after taking the protective film away after the first press.

** some materials do require a pre-press of a few seconds before doing the normal press time, normally textile vinyl used for Nylon based garments.

Adam, Wolfie

I tend to pre press for 2/3 seconds to flatten the garment and remove any moisture, I then press for the required time. If i'm being inpatient and remove the carrier paper to quickly I press for a third time (again for 2/3 seconds) just to make sure. I may be wrong, but the important thing is that the decal lasts and that the customer is happy.

Thanks Both. Sorry for not being clear at the start. My question is when you use cuttable films and if you press them again after the initial press.

Is it habit or for a reason?

I have a habit of removing the carrier too quickly so I just give a little re-press to ensure the design in down. I mainly do it with intricate designs in cuttable films. I have found no need to re-press when using Grafitype's "C" print films.

So to answer your question... Yes its a habit, but for a reason LOL
