LEF-20 Emboss!

Post by Joe Wigzell » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:00 pm

Hello!

As many of you will know that know me, I LOVE the LEF-20. I decided to try a print with lots and lots of layers, to create a kind of pyramid effect. So...I created 19 different files, one with the Roland logos and 2 CMYK squares and then 18 others each with 2 CMYK squares and a gloss layer-getting gradually smaller.
I printed the CMYK each time (just the square outline), then x10 Matt emboss layers, then the CMYK again and finally a gloss layer to finish. I had to re adjust the height of the bed several times throughout the print...and it took a long time! It used 15.98cc of ink, costing around £4.

Here is a few pics, and link to the rest on Facebook:

Funny you should post it at the exact time I was experimenting with the same idea:

Ha cool! How many files/layers? That looks ace, is it onto a card substrate alternating between printed and unprinted triangles in pyramids? What size is it?
Since doing my one I have been reeling with ideas for similar prints  I want to do a fish in a tank!

That's a 5x6 cm piece of red metallic paper. The matte pyramids are 7 times two-layer files, total of 14 layers and there's double gloss on top of the two glossy rows.

Ha! well it was 18 'step' layers, and each went:
CMYK > 10x Matt Varnish > CMYK > 1x Gloss
I did it over 3 days but it needn't have taken that long, as I just popped over every now and again a ran another few layers, plus I set the print area quite a lot larger than the actual print size.
It used 15.98cc of ink altogether.
Here's an image for scale:
