Modela MDX-20, cable for Win 7/8/10

Post by udical » Mon May 15, 2017 8:35 am

Hi, all, I am new here. How are you? 8-) I have one question, my modela worked on Windows XP, but now I would like to connect it to new comp with windows 7 or 10. Do I need to buy ME-US3 cable? Or i can continue to use standard older cable.

You'll need a working USB-to-SERIAL cable adapter if you miss the old type serial connector in the new PC. If you have the same plug then you don't need any other cables.

I have serial connector but it does not work in windows 7, because windows 7 have only one port and that is com1 port, and there it does not work, it did not work on com1 either on old comp. Windows 7 does not have com2 and com4. It only have on com3 some intel card, of mainboard installed as plug and play, therefore that port cannot be cleaned... I am looking on whole internet but seems no one is even trying to use old serial ports with windows 7? they all go with usb adapter :P

Manual also says to install on every other port then com1, of course I am now trying to install new drivers for win7 and program is offering me only com1 and com3. Can I use that old software also on win7? Like Dr. Engrave and Player for XP. I was trying to install xp in dual boot on dell, but win xp cannot be installed tere because there are no SATA drivers. For which i would need drivers to be add on floopy disk, but new comp, does not have floppy. I am lost.

Solved, i have switched in BIOS from COM1 to COM2, and now it works. It must work via 2F8H when you look under properties of COM port.

Glad you solved it. BIOS configuration is the way to go in case of switching physical addresses, anything above that is software configurable in Windows.
