Roland bn20 user with banding issuses

Post by Drunknspike » Sun Aug 27, 2017 5:45 pm

Hello I have a Roland bn20 which has banding issuses on the cyan ink at the start of the print right hand side it looks ok then in the middle the banding starts then as it goes to the left it starts looking ok again.

Things I've tried so far
I've changed both wipers felt and rubber
I've printed cyan filled squares in a line across the vinyl to see the issue better
I read up on ink starvation and thought it was that to make sure I printed 2 squares in the middle of the vinyl where the lines were more apparent and the lines still appear if it was ink starvation the lines wouldn't appear as it starts printing in the middle instead of at the end of the vinyl there should be enough ink in the head
I've printed a test print there are 4 missing nozzles on the test pattern in the cyan two each on the same line but a part from each other I've done multiple head cleans powerful medium and normal the nozzles won't come back
Can this cause the banding in getting ?

Yes, it's not ink starvation, I'd bet on media crash and resulting head damage. You might want to soak the captop in cleaning liquid overnight for a few times to see if it opens up.

hi again i tired a head soak didn't work so i have been using as is (last time i posted i just bought the printer and couldn't really spend any money had to start making some to make the money back ) but now its really nagging me not being able to print certain colours and a few of the blacks went deflected so decided to spend some time trying to rectify the nozzles past few months ive put 2 new wipers and cap top in it and tonight tried a drastic measure of getting a foam swab and cleaning fluid soaking the swab and pressing it against the head (i really didn't want to do this but what the hell only paid 3k for the printer lol) ive managed to get 2 of the cyan printing on one side by doing this (and correct most of the deflected black i had ) and now im trying to get the last 2 cyan back and want to concentrate on that part of the printhead

so the question the cyan nozzels that are missing are definatly left from center nozzels ? or is it the other way around right from center?

These are actually not in the center, there are two passes of nozzles there.

Soaking with a swab won’t help you here. You need to turn off the printer, move the carriage away from capping, soak the captop and push the carriage in place. Then check back the next day.

Hi I've done it before the soaking in the capping station didn't do anything the only thing that has worked see original image in first post is with the swab I had 4 missing cyan now only two so it has done some hi ING I just wanted to see if anyone had a rough idea where the location on the print head where the nozzles are missing so I'm not wasting time soaking the wrong place with the swab thanx in advance
