Skewed registration on DXY-1100

Post by cicero38 » Sat Sep 02, 2017 9:52 pm

Could anyone give any suggestions on how to correct a skewed registration on a DXY-1100?
I've never opened up my plotter, but I'm assuming (and kind of hoping) that the problem is strictly hardware related.
For reference, I'm plotting out of Rhinoceros 3D, using WinLine on a Windows 10 machine.
I've also included an image for reference, to show the degree of skew. Note that the red lines are what gets plotted, while the black lines are what should have plotted.

From your descriptions, it sounds like one of the belts has slacked and would need to be tensioned correctly.

You would need to use a tension gauge to set the correct setting.

For the X Belt the front should be 200-220g and rear should be 200-220g, there is an adjustment screw by the pulley.

For the Y belt the tension should be 170-200g.

Brilliant, thanks Kai!
As I've never used a tension gauge before, could you please describe which type would be most appropriate for this application? I've done a search online for 'tension gauge', and unfortunately I cannot guess which would be best ('pencil type', needle, hook, etc).

The standard type is a hook based gauge, have a look at this link

Kai, I've managed to calibrate the tension of both belts as recommended by you, and although this has helped a bit, there is still a noticeable skew. Would you happen to have any other suggestions? Much appreciated!
