Engraving black star lighters with MPX-95

Post by bensh4psx » Thu Nov 09, 2017 3:21 pm

Hi guys

I have had my engraver about a month now. It was an ex demo machine bought straight from Metaza.

I have had nothing but problems with it, but my current problem is driving me mad.

I engrave a lot of lighters. Silver & Black. The black are a matt colour and the pin of the mpx95 needs to obviously dig below the paint, so I contour this and fill it - not island fill. When doing this, it used to show up quite clearly, but now for some reason it isn't doing.

As mentioned ive only had the item for a matter of weeks, and they even replaced the head for me 2 weeks ago.

I have readjusted the head to see if that would work using the head manager, but nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have just purchased a new pin but obviously don't want to just waste a pin!

I have attached an image of the difference in engraving. The right hand side was the engraving a couple of weeks ago, and the left is now.

From the image it looks like it is not hitting the material hard enough to make a mark, or that the nose cone is catching the surface.

How does it look when you engrave on other items such as stainless steel?

Hi Kai

I really appreciate your response.

When engraving on stainless steel the outcome is much better & clearer.

How would I check to see if this is a problem with the nose cone?

Kai,

I just received my new nose cone and tried and tested this.

It worked!

Thanks so much for giving me a heads up.. I wasn't even aware this could be changed!

Solved straight away.

Regards
Ben
