Make those cutters fit !!!

Post by imodela » Mon Oct 15, 2012 10:23 pm

One niggle that is with the Imodela is the method of cutter fixing, collets would be great but I appreciate that it is a budget machine and we are stuck with grub scews :( so I now have lots of cutters of differing sizes and fit; 2.35 mm dia, 3 mm dia, 1/8" dia and 4 mm dia - quite a selection.

I have reamed out a number of Imodela spindles to accomodate these cutters but some of the cutters vary slightly in diameter so how do we get a better fit especially when using very small slot drill such as 0.2 mm well my solution was to nickel plate the shafts until I got a snug fit, not as good as collets but the best that i can come up with.

The most important thing to note here is to rotate the cathode (the bit you are trying to plate) which will result in an evenly distributed plate around the shaft of the cutter. I realise that this is beyond most users collection of toys but if it promotes a bit of grey cell activity so be it :D

Regards
Steve

I have removed a few spam posts. Not sure if the one you were referring to is one of them, but could be.

Hello Dennis, I think it may have been genuine, I guess sometimes a posted link is not always quite what someone intened/sees on their computer especially if you have to log into an area - oh heck where is this going

Hi Steve,

They may have removed it themselves in that case. We had a member who was spamming so I deleted his account which deleted all his post hence why I said it may have been that one.

Lol, where are you going with it

Cheers
Dennis
