a supplier for micro drills for 2.35mm + 3mm shank.

Post by chevy6600 » Thu Sep 19, 2013 10:19 pm

Hi guys, i have found a supplier for micro HSS drills for those of you who have the 2.35mm shank, or you can buy a spindle of this size from roland then you can buy these cheap drills.
http://www.squirestools.com/11-08.pdf go to page 122.

and if you want to go larger you can use the 3mm spindle and get these drills. I think you would be pretty much covered then.

I think I have found a supplier for 3mm shank cutters:

http://www.cnctooling.co.uk/

I have asked them to confirm that they do sell actual 3mm shank cutters...need to do that after I bought some cutters from China via Amazon that were advertised as 3mm, but were actually 3.175mm...

Unfortunately, those guys haven't answered the enquiry email I sent them, so the website is probably another zombie.
It seems to be impossible to find 3mm shank tools!

Thinking of giving up with this iModela before I've even started...wish I'd gone with buying a 3D printer now...

Hi Dave,
There are anumber of 3 mm shaft suppliers in UK.

Proxxon Tools, I use http://www.germantools.co.uk/
MSC Industrial Supply Co. http://www.mscdirect.com
Also try searching on 'Model Engineering' milling cutters.

Thanks, AlanR.

Sorry, I don't wish to sound negative, but:
I didn't find anything on the German Tools website.
The other one has some crazy prices! They're based in the US.

I'm beginning to think that I may have to get an engineer to drill out a spare spindle to take 3.175 mm tools, because they seem to be more plentiful.

I wonder why Techsoft chose to supply a 3mm spindle?

On the Proxxon Tools site, go down the list on the right hand side to 'Proxxon Accessories'.

Proxxon is very popular in UK with lots of suppliers

Sorry the MSC should be http://www.mscdirect.co.uk

TechSoft supply the 3 mm spindle because they sell a lot of 3 mm shaft cutters for the other machines, their tooling may be a bit more expensive but are a high quality and will last a LOT longer, also you do not need to use the fan unit on the shaft.

Thanks, Alan!

It looks like MSC might have what I need (0.4mm and 0.5mm ball nose cutters with 3mm shank).

http://www.mscdirect.co.uk/DCA-10320B/S ... oduct.html
http://www.mscdirect.co.uk/DCA-10325J/S ... oduct.html

Prices are sky-high, but I may have to pay that if they're as rare as rocking horse poop.

Cheers.

Hi, I've spent the day trying to purchase a 3mm spindle (Part Number RLP-IMOD-025). I tried three different web sites:

http://www.techsoft.co.uk
http://www.imodela.co.uk
http://www.rolanddga.com

I can see the part on on the first two but am unable to complete the transaction because the web site hangs.
I contacted the technical support at the Roland DGA Store at (949) 727-2100. They told me that they don’t support the iModela and there was nobody that does.

Is this true? Has Roland folded or completely abandoned the iModela product line?

This all started because i want a small cutting head, in the 0.4mm-0.5mm dia range and I was unable to find any cutting bits to fit the goofy 2.35mm spindle. Seems like the best I can find is 1/8" (3.175mm) cutter and was hoping to purchase a 3mm spindle and drill it out to accept 1/8. What a mess.

Any thoughts? I'm dead in the water until I can get a small diameter cutting tool working.

Thanks,
Mark

Update to my last post.

I was able to place an order to purchase 3mm spindle from TechSoft. Including shipping it was $85 US. Ouch!

The first time my credit card company denied the transaction because they thought is was a fraudulent transaction. They were not too far off base. Had to call the credit card company and get it turned back on.

Thanks,
Mark
