SP-300i is the successor of the 300V. Both are excellent machines.

Yeah thats what all my research has confirmed really, the only other thing I am looking into is the pros and cons to using a bulk ink system with the main pro being the cost of ink

So thats a NO then?
Got one on my small epson office printer and been happy with it but was unsure when it comes to a roland as im sure it will be a good machine if its half as impressive as my gx500 so worth putting decent ink in

Oh also when I bought my gx500 I picked it up in the back of my estate car, am I ok to do the same if I find a sp300i or do I need to transport it in a different way as the overall dimensions seem to be about 10cm longer?

There is no way of benefiting from bulk ink in an SP-series machine. It’s a simple swot anaysis here:

S: none
W: lower and/or unexpected print quality, unstable consistency
O: slightly bigger margin on ink cost
T: more frequent service need, hassle with bulk system, leaks, too frequent replacement of unreasonably expensive bulk system parts, shorter print head lifetime resulting in real life expenses beyond OEM ink use during the lifetime of the machine

VersaCAMM transport is a different beast. I would completely drain it before putting it in a passenger car.

There are plenty of transport guides for it in this forum.

Fair enough, really appreciate the advice especially from someone that knows what they are talking about as when you put it that way it makes sense to use OEM ink, I have just seen a lot of used machines being sold with bulk ink systems and people saying ink is ink but will definately take your advice on board and stick to OEM and look for a machine thats been run on OEM ink

Just type “transport” in upper right corner search box and enjoy.
