Replacing BN-20 Print Head

Post by ritelitephil » Tue Apr 19, 2016 4:41 pm

We need to replace the print head on our BN-20 due to the poor print quality of the black ink. I guess this isn't a component we can replace ourselves and would need a professional to do so. I've been asked to get prices to replace the head, does anyone have a rough idea what kind of cost we would be looking at, and have contact details for arranging to get this replaced please?

You could do it yourself for £1200 to £1500 but you would not be able to put the head rank number into the motherboard. Probably looking at nearer £2000 with a visit from a roland engineer to do it for you.

Brave men :)
I've been servicing printers for 23 years and I still feel a bit shaky when I need to replace the head.

Thanks both, I've spoken to Roland this morning who are going to give me a call back next week with costings of print head replacement, and also info on their extended warranty. First they're going to just check whether the head really does need replacement.

what is the really importance of Head Rank number input?

Every head is a little different due to manufacturing tolerances thus requiring different voltages for driving the nozzles. Head rank is a code to tell the mainboard how to drive this particular print head. Wrong head rank may result in reduced print quality and/or lifetime.
