Problems with scuffing?

Post by thelazycow » Tue Mar 20, 2018 10:15 am

VS-540i
I only use Oralfol 1370mm grey back white gloss vinyl sticker and have done for 2 years.

See the attached photo! this has starting happening to every print! I had changed rolls and made no difference. (apart from the first 3rd of roll didnt seem as bad)
I've tried 'tricking' the printer into thinking its a small width....no difference
moved the pinch rollers
pulled media out so not so tight at rear
speed of print
quality of print
different type of media setting

NOTHING has changed. Is it possible that the last 2 rolls of media could be faulty? as it seems this is being caused by 'wrinkled' media possibly?

I have used to exact same media for 2 years, doing 2 rolls a week and never had an issue like this.

HELP!!

Have you tried manually cleaning the head?

I've seen this numerous times at customers sites and usually, it's a hair or ball of fluff hanging from the head or the head guards.

From the look of the line, this could be caused by the media not laying flat, ensure you have the correct vacuum and heater settings.

I have used the same media 2 to 3 rolls a week every week for the past 2 years and never needed to change anything. However when the issue first started I played around with heating and suction settings and it made no difference.
Im conceived its the media.

Cheap Orafol printing vinyl is extremely heat sensitive and is showing non-linear distortion even in mid thirties C.

i've turned the heater all the way off and it appears to have solved the issue, now it wont cut so having to adjust the pressure.
