Milling tools for my engraver

Post by Chris Cartwright » Wed Aug 17, 2011 12:28 pm

Hi
I have been using my EGX360 to cut Rhino designs in wax for casting. I am currently using normal engraving cutters which fit my 4.36mm collet. Does anyone know a supplier of end mills which would fit my machine?

Hi Chris
Suppliers of end mills for the standard 4.36mm collet are limited. However, we do offer here alternative collets in many industry standard sizes. The most versatile option would be to purchase a collet set which has 3, 4, 5 and 6mm included. The stock code is ZC23, and price currently is £130 plus vat.

There are many suppliers of end mills with shank sizes suitable for these size collets and I assume you have already contacted some. If you need contact details, let me know.

Thanks Peter, I have been talking to ITC Carbide, they have lots of specialist tools for acrylic too which I would like to use on my engraver for signage applications.

Chris, With the ZC23 collets, as Peter said you can use all sorts of tools upto 6mm diameter, however, I found 6mm cutters can take its toll on the machine unless you are using them for surfacing at a shallow depth. I tended to use up to 3mm diameter flat and ball and they can cut really well. For some low cost milling tools all for 6mm collet, Google "FC3 Throw away cutters", in engineering terms they are just that. For a Roland user in softer materials they may last forever. Also http://www.drill-service.co.uk is a place users buy tools from. Hope this helps.
