MDX-15 Driver/Serial to USB issue

Post by joshLD » Fri Nov 09, 2018 12:21 am

Hello!

My employer recently purchased a clean, used MDX-15. In setting it up, I’m running into an issue getting Modela Player 4 software on the computer to talk to the MDX-15 machine.

I think the issue may be that Modela Play 4 is not seeing the machine, since the MDX-15 is plugged into the computer via a serial to usb converter cable. After several hours of troubleshooting and reading forums, I’m ready to ask for help. If anyone has insights I would be very grateful.

Thanks!!
Josh

Hi Josh
If you have an old PC with a RS232 port and the correct cable and drivers, it should work, usually unto Windows 7.

Do not attempt to use a 3rd part USB to Serial adaptor, they just do not work. They look like they start to and loose communication as they d not support the same hardware handshaking as a real RS232 port. There was a Roland certified one USB-to-SERIAL cable adapter "ME-US3 cable" for unto Windows 7. MDX-15/20 was discontinued in July 2015, so the older PC with RS232 is the best solution to keep the little machine running.

Patrick: Thanks! That is tremendously helpful to know that 3rd part USB-Serial adapters don’t work. I’ll see if I can find a used ME-US3 to make the connection.

Kia: Thanks for the update link! I’ll get all software current on Monday!
