Roland Safety Key Connector? PNC-3200

Post by salbones » Wed Mar 26, 2014 5:54 am

I just purchased a used PNC-3200 for my shop. I checked out the machine and everything seems to work fine...except that the spindle motor will not function and the machine will not accept data. Upon further investigation, I discovered that this unit was equipped with a small 8-pin Mini Din connector intended to connect the machine to a safety cover (Roland ZBX-500) that inhibits the operation of the machine if the hood is open. If one does not have such a cover, Roland apparently supplied a "key" which is basically the same din plug with a bunch of jumpers on it to emulate the absent safety cover. There is a mention of this key in the manual and it indeed appears to be just a din-plug with a rubber cap over the back of it to protect the jumpers inside. Unfortunately, I possess neither the Key nor the Cover and I can't find a schematic of the key or the connector into which it is inserted. Roland no longer sells this key. Can anyone out there tell me what the jumper configuration is for this key? It appears it is the same for all Roland machines with this safety feature. If you have such a key in your machine, could you kindly pop off the cover and let me know what's inside? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Cheers!

Hi,

I have had a look into this and from what I can confirm the part is - 23505678 - CABLE-ASSY KEY MDX-500.

I have checked stock on these and they are still available.

You can order one from our order management team on 0845 230 9060.

Hi Kai Perry,

Is there a CABLE-ASSY KEY MDX-650 in stock ?

Or it is compatible with CABLE-ASSY KEY MDX-500 ?

Hi, I do not know the pin connections, but I may have a solution for you, but as it is a very old machine I cannot really put it here.

I have an MDX-500 from one of our labs that we lost the key plug to.
Since I'm in the USA I tried ordering one from Ieion corp but they said Roland has it backordered.

Is there an alternative source in the US?

The key - 23505678 CABLE-ASSY KEY MDX-500 is unique to the machine, the part may still be available, but likely only as old stock due to the age of the machine.

I have plenty of din plugs from old serial cables that would fit. Is there a wiring diagram somewhere? I can easily make one.

I searched for that part a while ago and only one place in the states said they have it. That was IEION so I ordered it and after a while they sent back a message that Roland had backordered it. They offered a refund but I'd rather have the part so I can save this machine

The only other place that claims to have it is dg-parts in the UAE and wont ship to to the USA....

Looking at the main parts finder the part is listed as "Supply End"

I have also looked through all the guides but there is no diagram of the part.

I will ask a question on our internal forum to see if anyone has a wiring map for the connector.
