Variable Data - Drawback!

Post by stitch-up » Fri Jan 26, 2018 6:52 pm

I've been using VersaWorks 'Variable Data' feature.

The basics are quite simple but for me, one of the biggest drawbacks is its inability to 'word-wrap'!

If the data to be entered exceeds the width of the field box created, it gets left out!

My client has asked for 1600 labels and I'm forced to editing the spreadsheet supplied creating additional columns so I can manually divide the text into shorter lengths to fit the extra VDP fields I've created.

Absolute pain!!

Hi John,

This would a great addition to the way variable data works, we shall add it to the VersaWorks wish list.

Variable Data is a great tool for quick & simple tasks but has a lot of limitations.

Both Illustrator & InDesign offer data-driven fields which might be worth looking into. I generally go down the route of scripting in Illustrator which gives you unlimited control over layout but obviously needs a bit of programming knowledge.
