Roland Plotter DXY800 repair guidance

Post by zebedee » Sun Jun 04, 2017 6:57 pm

I have a couple of Roland plotters I just took out of storage, The DXY800 has been damaged and the capstan roller for the drive string has snapped off the pen arm. I can fix the capstan, however, How do I re-string the drive cable? well, I can restring it but I have no reference how to rewind it on the motor capstan, since it is a closed loop string it has to be looped over the drive capstan in a certain manner and fed down the arm, engage the pen carriage and be looped over the (now broken, soon to be repaired) end capstan.

Is there a repair/service manual for this model of Roland printer/plotter? Or a similar cable ( steel drive string) driven Roland plotter? Or absent of that, though that would be really handy, a general reference to how to string the drive cable in the right manner and tension? Pictures of this models capstan spooling or a similar model? I have scoured the internet, which led me here.

Thanks in advance.

Did you ever manage to get this sorted? Mine is also making a racket and I suspect loose windings so looking for general advice.
