Setting zero on SRM-20

Post by shiremog » Wed Dec 27, 2017 3:12 pm

I want to run an SRM-20 without vpanel installed on the laptop connected to it. I can produce .prn files on Modela4 on a desktop machine. These can be copied to the laptop & sent to the engraver ( I do this with my TS-30 ). The problem I have is that there is no way to set the workpiece Z zero. On the TS-30 I just have to lower the tool to the height of the top of the finished model. How can I do that with the SRM-20? I imagine that I can write a programe to raise & lower the tool ( again, I do this with the TS-30 ). Presumably, the vpanel sends an instruction to the machine to set the zero. Can anyone tell me what that instruction is?
thanks in anticipation,

On older machines we had buttons/handwheels etc to position the axis.
SRM-20 only has one button ON/OFF, so on all machines we now use VPanel to move and set the axis.
