New user - old EGX-300

Post by Steamy » Sat Jan 27, 2018 11:18 pm

Hi
Hope someone can help?

I have acquired an EGX-300 (Yes i know its old, but from what I have seen should be more than enough for my needs at present)
Only thing is i cant get it to do much!

I have got the drivers and Dr Engrave software (After raising a ticket) and installed on an XP laptop (Dell with Parallel port)
Engraver powers up and all motions and spindle work.
Can access all menus and set for Parallel and defaults. Using parallel cable supplied and all secure
Can set home XY and all 3 Z points OK and are remembered.

I have run the driver setup and used CAMM-2 EGX-300 on LPT1.
Trying a simple Text "ABC" on Dr Engrave and printing brings up "Wrong Number of Parameters" on the LCD!!
No matter what I try I either get that or the "command not recognised" errors.

Tried Command mode 1, Mode 2 and Auto, Tried advanced settings in the print driver and no joy just getting the same..

Am i using the correct driver for this or is there a specific windows printer driver setting i need to amend?
(There is no selection for straight EGX-300)

Thinking of trying Serial (if i can find a lead to suit)

Any pointers would be appreciated

many thanks

Check the BIOS settings for the Parallel setting, ensure that it is set to Standard instead of ECP.

Hi Kai

Thanks for that.
Unfortunately that didn’t work either..... 😟

However I grabbed my usb to parallel lead and it has burst into life..
Appears to be working now, just need to start the learning curve to get it levelled and then start wrecking things!!!

May look back into the port drivers one day but whilst it’s working I’m leaving well alone!

Many thanks
.

Glad its working with the USB converter, strange that it wouldn't work the other way around, as it's a direct connection.
