Sound Reduction Unit
Sound Reduction Unit
I know I have not posted anything for quite awhile, but have been doing a lot of testing including making a dedicated sound reduction chamber (sounds better than a plastic box).
It is a 35 ltr 'Really Useful' box lined with 10 mm acoustic foam, it reduces the sound by quite a lot, making it easier to work near the iModela while running.
I spotted a recent post about the problem with a USB lead, I had a simular problem, tried using a longer high quality USB lead (to make it easier to connect inside the box) but would not work, so am using the supplied lead with no problems, so think it must be due to lead length (not lead quality).
Also been doing a lot of testing of the settings in my CAD programme and have increased the quality, also trying a new CAM programme, 'Player 4' works well , but need some features 'Player 4' does not have.
The oil drum is at 1:42 scale, using 'Raku-Tool SB-0470' Modelling Board. the next test is to make it as a single piece by using two sided cutting.
Will try and post more often and once completed the testing on the new CAM software will give more information.

Re: Sound Reduction Unit
Nice one Alan, almost looks purpose built.
A couple of the guys in the office here have tried similar things with some success.

Re: Sound Reduction Unit
Hi Ryan,
Yes it does look good all thanks to 'Really Useful', should have mentioned about the white disc in the window, it is a very basic battery LED light, I am able to see what is happening very well, but have left off the clear flaps on the iModela.
Am still doing some tests for two sided cutting, will post some pictures soon.
all the best,
alan

Re: Sound Reduction Unit
I have designed a box with sound proofing material to sit over the iModela, then using an anti vibration mat to sit the machine on.
I will load up some images soon.

Re: Sound Reduction Unit
Hi,
As I am using the box lid as the base, have it lined with the soundproofing sheet with the imodela supplied mat under the unit.
What i like is I can still hear the machine running, so will know if there is a problem.

Re: Sound Reduction Unit
I can still hear the machine, but the level of noise is reduced a lot.
